No, as of right now, Las Vegas and I are not going to be friends. Why? Well...
Flight and Transfer
You can fly from Vancouver to Las Vegas within 2.5 hours. That's just long enough to not be able to see a current movie to the end. So I'll never know the end of Pennywise the clown ... Damn!
Wherever we travel, we try to use local public transportation. So we want to use the same in Vegas to get to the hotel. And there are stories circulating on the Internet that describe a bus route from the airport to Las Vegas Boulevard (Strip) and beyond. These stories tell of buses and bus stops and ticket machines. Numerous eyewitnesses there tell of squeaky vehicles, stale bus stop barracks and grumpy bus drivers.
So we start looking for a way to charge the 2 dollars for a ticket at a machine from our credit card. However, there seems to be no one alive today who has ever seen a ticket machine or knows where it might be. Therefore we are sure: Ticket machines never existed! They were exchanged and replaced with gaming machines. And after half an hour of unsuccessful searching, we give up on IT and surrender to modernity: We order an Uber.
Uber is properly organized here, by the way. No matter where you stand or walk, there is a special pick-up area for "rideshare". So Uber and Lyft are never more than 5 minutes away. Convenient, cheap and somehow strange.
Hotel
Let's go to the Hotel New York New York. It's 11 p.m. The lobby is an arcade. We can't find the reception desk. It takes a while and we find the eight counters, three of which are occupied. In front: a line of people wanting to check in. It is 11:15 p.m.
Not very friendly the receptionist informs us that the room category we ordered is not available and therefore we get another one (two queen beds instead of one king bed). She informs us about it! She does not apologize or look for other solutions. She informs us about a fact that we cannot change anyway. If it is absolutely necessary, we should call the reception the next morning and they will check if rooms with king are free and rebook us. Then she collects the new resort fee of $43 per night (yes, per night!). That's about the same as the room rate without the resort fee. It is 11:30 pm.
New York and also the hotel located here in Las Vegas is known to be built high. Accordingly high are also the towers of the hotel castle built here. there are up to 37 floors. Our room is located on floor 4 and offers an excellent view of various air conditioners and roof caps. Great! The sliding door to the bathroom groans, like - no I refrain from a comparison. You get something for your resort fee - hooray!
At least the thing makes a good impression from the outside.
