On monday we decide to rent a car and explore the desert surrounding Vegas. Destination: Valley of fire.
Getting there
As usual we use Enterprise to rent a car. To be more independent we take the Enterprise at the Westin Hotel, since we can drop off the car even after the office is closed. Picking up the car we get surprised. Though we reserved a compact class car we end up driving a Dodge Ram Pickup.
To get to valley of fire we drive along I-15 North for about 30 minutes. Exit 75 guides us to the valley of fire highway and if you dont find the valley from here you dont deserve to find it. The closer we get to the valley the deeper we dive into the desert.
The View
What we did not expect at all was the power of the sun. It just burns down on us and since it is January we were not equipped with sunglasses or caps we have to get some sunglasses for $ 16. Finally we can fully enjoy the wild beauty of this state park.
Most impressive are the colours over here. The sky is blue, the sand is a mixture of grey, yellow and orange, the surrounding rocks are deep red. Breathtaking! Well I can tell you a lot, but words cannot really describe how stunning this is. But maybe a video can? Lets see:
